Computer Science Student / Writer / Builder
I am Bhumi N Deshpande, CS student at Scaler School of Technology and IIT Madras, passionate about open source, frontend development, and building impactful tech projects. Contributor at Sugar Labs with hands-on experience in React, GitHub workflows, and testing legacy JavaScript codebases.
About
Open source changed the way I learn. What began as curiosity about web development grew into contributing to real-world projects at Sugar Labs, understanding large codebases, and writing tests for legacy systems.
I also submitted a GSoC proposal for Music Blocks v3 maintenance. Although it didn’t receive a slot, the experience taught me how to read projects deeply, communicate with maintainers, and think long-term about contributions.
I’m part of my college’s Open Source Club, where I work closely with the head repo maintainer and support students in making their first meaningful contributions.
Beyond code, I express myself through writing poems and pieces on self help, exploring creativity as a complement to my technical pursuits.

This PR adds documentation clarifying expected behavior and common console errors when running Music Blocks locally.
This PR adds meaningful unit test coverage for js/blocks.js, improving coverage from about 6% to 15% without requiring full UI, canvas rendering, or browser interaction.
This PR adds unit test coverage for js/utils/musicutils.js, focusing on music theory, pitch, scale, interval, temperament, accidental, and drum utility behavior.
Submitted a proposal for the Music Blocks V3 Maintenance project. The project did not receive a slot, but the proposal focused on creating a codebase where contributors can make changes confidently with stronger regression coverage and current, maintainable dependencies alongside v4 development.
